Bzegu, a lecturer in the mechanical engineering department at Adamawa State Polytechnic in Yola, was fatally shot early on Thursday at his Bajabure home, which lies behind Anglican Junior Seminary in a nearby satellite town. Yola is the state capital.
His wife apparently watched helplessly as the attackers reportedly broke into his home, shot him multiple times in the chest, and then saw him pass away.
The attackers entered the family’s home at around 3:00 am, according to a source close to the family who asked to remain anonymous.
The report added that this was the unidentified attackers’ fifth attempt to attack the home, but this time they were successful and killed their breadwinner in cold blood.

Residents in the state have been uneasy due to a recent run of killings, the most notable of which was an attack by unidentified gunmen on the home of Daniel Umaru, a pastor with the Ekklesiyya Yan’uwa a Nigeria (Church of the Brethren), which claimed the lives of the pastor’s two teenage sons.
The pastor and his two boys were shot last week when gunmen broke into the cleric’s home in the Kwarhi neighbourhood of Mararaba Mubi in the middle of the night.
Although his attackers kidnapped his 13-year-old daughter, who has since been set free after an undisclosed amount of money was paid to her captors as ransom, the cleric survived while his two teenage sons died instantaneously.
