Gabriel Medina, the Brazilian surfing champion, has announced that he will be back in competition after taking a break for his mental health.
In an interview that aired Friday, the three-time world champion said that he was “better” and that he would compete again next month.
Medina, who is 28 years old, believes he has learned a lot during his time away from the sport and feels 100 percent. That is why he is making an announcement about his return.
Gymnast Simone Biles and tennis player Naomi Osaka are just two of many athletes who have said they have mental health problems. Medina said he was retiring in January.
Medina has described the past few months as a trying time for him personally, and it has taken its toll.
In addition, he was rehabilitated from a hip ailment.
Despite winning his third world title last year, Medina did not finish on the podium at the Olympics, which marked the debut of surfing at the Tokyo Games.
Yasmin Brunet, a Brazilian model, and actor, had also left him. He had also started going to bed early and eating healthily again after his breakup with Brunet Medina mentioned.
The victor of the world championships in 2014, 2018, and 2021 is slated to compete in the World Surf League’s sixth round, which will be held in Indonesia from May 28 to June 6.
