  • rumors that the government will make this a compulsory dose for teachers
  • Some teachers preferred using the prevention measures to the vaccine
Some teachers under the employment of the Bauchi State Government have been engulfed in panic as the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Aliyu Tilde urged them to go for the Covid-19 vaccination, describing them as front-line workers.
Tilde has on Wednesday evening posted his picture after receiving the dose on his Facebook page.

‘Covid Vaccine: Take it and be grateful to God…That we have survived long enough to witness and experience a vaccine to COVID-19. Many did not live long enough to benefit from it.

‘Alhamdulillah. Next will be my teachers… They are also frontline workers—in sha Allah,’ Tilde posted.

Reactions have followed the Commissioner’s post, a teacher who works with a public school in Bauchi Capital told our Correspondent that he has heard rumors that the government will make this a compulsory dose for teachers.
The teacher, Abubakar Saidu said;

‘I will not take the vaccine. I don’t just want it. They should not even attempt mandating it.’

Another teacher, Aisha Abdullahi said she preferred using the prevention measures to the vaccine.

‘I have been putting on my face mask, sanitizer, and washing of my hands. I’m okay with this. No to this vaccine,’ she said.

While reacting to the panic, Tilde said that the government has no plan of mandating the vaccine but wanted them to have the advantage of having the vaccine early for better safety of the workforce and the children.

‘It is a privilege, I think. It will make our schools safer. I feel safer now, having the privilege to be vaccinated this early. I want that for my teachers too, if possible. There is no issue of compulsion and any relationship with their job. That will depend on government policies at both state and federal levels, not the prerogative of the Ministry,’ he said.

Bauchi State Government has however vaccinated 28,972 residents as at including the frontline health workers, security personnel, journalists, traditional and political and religious leaders, Executive Chairman, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed has said.
