BREAKING: 2021 WASSCE will not hold in May/June â€“ WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced on Tuesday that the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, which was previously scheduled for May/June, might not take place.

Mr Patrick Areghan, the Council’s Head of National Office (HNO), hinted at this when announcing the results of the 2021 first series of the WASSCE for private candidates on Tuesday in Lagos, according to NAN.

The impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, according to Areghan, is still being felt in the education field.

He
explained that because the entire educational timetable has been thrown
off, the test will not be able to take place as planned.

â€œLet me use this opportunity to dispel rumours being peddled about by some people regarding the conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates, 2021.

â€œThe effect of the COVID-19 is still very much felt in the education sector and this has taken its toll on the academic calendar in the country.

â€œIt is, therefore, not going to be possible to have the examination in May/June this year.

A convenient international timetable for the conduct of this examination will soon be released.

â€œTo
this effect, all stakeholders are, therefore, requested to keep their
fingers crossed until they hear directly from WAEC,â€™â€™ the WAEC boss
said.

He then urged all school principals and owners to adhere to the defined deadlines for registering candidates for the test.

It’s important, he says, to emphasize the importance of Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) in calculating candidates’ results.
