Court To Rule On Suit Challenging IGP’s Tenure Extension on April 16

On Tuesday, Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja set April 16 for a ruling on a suit challenging Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu’s tenure extension.

After the lawyers in the case adopted and argued their written addresses on the subject, the judge set the date.

Maxwell Okpara, a lawyer, filed a lawsuit against the Federal Government
earlier this month over the extension of the IGP’s term.

On February 1, Adamu, who entered the Nigeria Police Force on February 1, 1986, reached the mandatory retirement age.

Last month, President Muhammadu Buhari extended the IGP’s term for another three months.

The suit named the President, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and Adamu as respondents.

Ugochukwu Ezekiel, the plaintiff’s counsel, told the court on Tuesday
that hearing notice had been served on all respondents in the case.

He urged the court to uphold his arguments and grant his client’s requested relief.

Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN), Adamu’s counsel, advised the court to dismiss the case due to its lack of substance.
