Deborah Samuel: Northern Governors Have Urged Caution

Following the assassination of a female student, Miss Deborah Samuel, of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, over alleged blasphemy, the Northern Governors’ Forum has urged Christians and Nigerians to remain calm.
Governor Simon Bako Lalong, who is the head of the Forum and the governor of Plateau State, said in a statement that the governors were worried about what was happening and that it was “clearly a way to settle a perceived infringement outside of the court system.”
After rumors that a peaceful rally was taken over and turned violent, which led to a curfew being put in place in Sokoto metropolis, the governors of the Northern region put out a statement asking for calm.
In their statement, the Northern Governors said that any attempt to solve problems on one’s own, whether religious or not, could cause more trouble in the country.
According to the statement, the Forum asked that security forces be given the chance to do a full investigation while showing sympathy for the family of the victim.
The Northern Governors praised Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State for taking important steps to get things back to normal in the state.
According to the statement, Governor Tambuwal was assured of the governors’ sympathy and prayers in dealing with the problem, and that they would ensure the adoption of appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence in any part of the region or the country at large.
For everyone to live together peacefully, the Northern Governors said it was important for people from northern Nigeria and Nigerians to love, tolerate, and respect each other, no matter their religion, ethnicity, or other ties.
