‘Don’t use me to mislead electorates’ -Buhari tell politicians

Despite the fact that oil prices fell from more than 100 dollars to less than 38 dollars during his presidency, and output decreased from 2.1 million barrels per day to around 500,000 barrels per day, he maintained a lot was accomplished.

In his desire for power, President Muhammadu Buhari has warned politicians from lying against his administration.

The president remarked on Thursday in Daura, Katsina State, where he greeted several governors elected within the All Progressive Congress, APC.

Mr Buhari urged historians and intellectuals to be truthful in recording the administration’s history,

especially in guiding electorate to make right choices of leadership for the country.’
Mr Buhari said the future of the country would be shaped by the diligence and honesty of those who document history and provide analysis of situations, knowing the value of what was obtained in the past and afterwards, in a statement released by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.

President Buhari said it would be regrettable to deceive voters with lies and personal bias, underlining the need of putting the country’s bigger interests ahead of other considerations.

“For the time remaining, and for those who have one more term in office based on the provision of the constitution, the elections are important to the parties.
“Intellectuals and historians should be fair to us so that those who are
looking for leadership positions will not exploit the political
ignorance or lack of knowledge of the people,’’
he said.
The President urged the governors to keep their word to the people and keep their pledges.
“We have done our best and thank God for what we have been able to achieve with the available resources, otherwise we would have been in trouble,’’ he added.
The President stated that the security situation has improved since the North East’s insecurity prior to 2015, as well as the South South’s, where some portions of the north were directly under terrorist control, while the south faced major issues.
“The subsequent development in the North West is the most amazing, where people who lived together, spoke the same language and shared common faith started killing each other and rustling cows.

“I had to change the security chiefs and we had to get down to the fundamentals of providing security. If you look at the situation in relation to time and resources, you will find out what we have been able to achieve,’’ the president noted.

Despite the fact that oil prices fell from more than 100 dollars to less than 38 dollars during his presidency, and output decreased from 2.1 million barrels per day to around 500,000 barrels per day, he maintained a lot was accomplished.

Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, the Governor of Kebbi State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, commended President Buhari for providing the APC with vision and strong leadership, stressing that efforts to mainstream agriculture as the economy’s basis were showing benefits.

“I drove from Kebbi State to Daura, and stopped to pick the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, and realized that for the eight hours of coming here, we didn’t see more than 10km of land that was not cultivated.

“It goes to show that the efforts to improve security is also paying off. Farmers are taking advantage and planting.
Your Excellency, in just six weeks, you have commissioned projects in the states of Lagos, Kano, Katsina, and Borno, as well as launching other projects electronically.
“We appreciate the projects the federal government is doing in every state of the country and supporting governors, even those that are not so progressive,’’ he said.
Mr Bagudu claimed that three governors, Ben Ayade of Cross River, David Umahi of Ebonyi, and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, defected from their previous parties to join the APC due of the President’s fatherliness, fairness, and focus on bottom-up development.
“We are proud to have you as our leader. Your achievements and ideals are inculcated in all of us,’’ he noted.
Ben Ayade of Cross River, David Umahi of Ebonyi, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, John Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina, Simon Lalong of Plateau, and Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano are among the governors present at the meeting with the President.

The homage to President Buahri’s rural house included Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger, Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun, and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa States.
