Mohammed Umar, Adamawa State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, has stated that there is no need to be concerned about the management of local government funds under the current administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

In the few contracts they’ve awarded so far, Umar claims they’ve always followed the law, with all applicable paperwork and certificates of no objections in place.

He also refuted the opposition’s claims that he and
his permanent secretary, as well as the state’s ALGON chairman, had
been recently detained and summoned.

He
dismissed the claim as baseless, emphasizing that no one had detained
or harassed them, and that the EFCC operatives’ recent visit was solely
for the purpose of obtaining information and documents that had been
handed over to them.

for us we have all the documents that we kept in a separate place.

what we did was to get them together, photocopied them ,certified them
and gave it to them. Thatâ€™s exactly what happened but the insinuation in
town propagated by the opposition is that myself, my perm sec and ALGON chairman, we were arrested by EFCC. This is false, none of us was arrested or molested, all they needed is documents and we gave it to them.â€

Umar said the Fintiri administration did not award many contracts due to a lack of funds as a result of COVID-19, but the few contracts that were awarded followed due process and were handed over to them with all necessary documentation, including a certificate of no opposition from the bureau for public procurement.
