Electricity: DisCos Reliance On National Grid to Cut Soon

Electrical Distribution Companies (DisCos) will soon be able to connect to a novel model that aims to help and empower energy developers to deliver better electricity services in Nigeria.
This comes after an RMI study that mentions a fresh Renewable Embedded Generation (REG) business venture.
The UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions Program (UK PACT) provided funding for the feasibility study that formed the basis of the report, “Unlocking Renewable Embedded Generation in Nigeria”.
According to the paper, an embedded generation might provide Discos with a mechanism to increase their customers’ access to power while reducing their reliance on the dysfunctional national grid and keeping them in charge of their franchise region.
DisCos who struggle to utilize embedded generation in Nigeria will be especially interested in Unlocking Renewable Embedded Generation in Nigeria. This is primarily due to worries about their capacity to pay for the electricity they purchase.
Due to antiquated equipment and insufficient capacity, Nigeria’s national grid experiences frequent and prolonged power outages. Electricity consumers self-generate additional electricity for themselves, primarily using diesel generators. These are costly to operate, pollute the air, and add to the nation’s rising CO2 emissions profile.
