Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State who is allegedly accused of squandering billions of Naira in public monies, purchased 370 cows to give to APC leaders, underprivileged communities, and other vulnerable groups in time for the 2022 Eid-El-Kabir festival.

This information was provided to the recipients in Gusau on Saturday by the chairman of the distribution committee and former state chairman of the APC, Lawal Liman.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the previous governor had earlier in the week given 3,593 rams to recipients throughout the state for the same occasion.

According to Mr Liman, the act was done to make it easier for others who were less fortunate to celebrate Eid-El-Kabir.

He said that the recipients also included current and former APC local government officials and executives from the party’s 147 political wards.

Other beneficiaries include Islamic scholars, APC women’s and youth groups, associations, and local government officials, according to Mr Liman.

He praised the outgoing governor for helping the state’s residents, particularly the working class.

Muslims were urged by Mr Liman to pray for the state and all of Nigeria on the Eid-El-Kabir holiday.

Governor Yari’s ‘corruption’ Allegations

The anti-graft agency, which is looking into the alleged embezzlement of billions of naira while Mr Yari was the governor of Zamfara, arrested and detained Governor Yari (2011-2019), according to a report by Premium Times.

Another report additionally says Governor Yari is being looked into for allegedly profiting from the N80 billion that Ahmed Idris, the sacked former accountant-general of the federation, is accused of stealing.

The Federal High Court ruled in favour of the interim seizure of Mr Yari’s assets and funds in May.

Nevertheless, Mr Yari emerged as the APC’s Senate candidate in Zamfara despite being under investigation for corruption.
