Following Thursday’s draw at the Teatro Nacional in San José, the central American nation’s capital, Nigeria’s Falconets will play France, Canada, and Korea Republic in Group C of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica in August.

Holders of the trophy, Spain will compete in Group A with hosts Costa Rica, Australia, and Brazil from August 10 to 28, while Ghana will compete in Group D against Japan, the Netherlands, and three-time champions the United States of America.

In Group B, Germany will face Colombia, New Zealand, and Mexico, who have won the competition three times, notably in 2010 and 2014, when they overcame Nigeria in the final. Mexico finished second in the 2018 competition in Uruguay.

The Alejandro Morera Soto, a mix of natural and synthetic grass known as “stitched grass”, will host all group stage and quarter-final matches. The Estadio Nacional will host the semi-final, final, and third-place match.

The Head Coach of Nigeria’s Falconets U20 girls, Christopher Danjuma, and the Team Secretary, Patricia Osuji, were present at the draw event at the Teatro Nacional in San José.

Nigeria’s Falconets’ opening encounter will be against France, the host country for the 2018 tournament. Falconets won a group that included the Korea Republic at the 2014 World Cup in Canada, defeating the Koreans 2-1 in a group match. In the same competition, France came in third place while Nigeria’s Falconets came in second.
