FG to Impose Compulsory Health insurance programme

In order to provide 92 million underprivileged Nigerians with access to high-quality, reasonably priced healthcare services, the Federal Government has finalised plans to launch the implementation of the long-awaited obligatory health insurance programme.
When a delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) led by Dr Walter Mulombo Kazadi and the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Prof. Mohammed Nasir Sambo, paid him a courtesy visit in his office, Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, disclosed the information.
According to SGF, President Muhammadu Buhari’s signing of the National Health Insurance Authority Bill into law signalled a new lease of life for the health sector by making universal health care available to the vulnerable in every nook and cranny of the nation.
He said this:

And also to superintend over the general administration of the insurance coverage across the length and breadth of this country.[/quotation]
He applauded the World Health Organization (WHO) for providing the nation with the technical and financial help it needed to combat COVID-19 in the nation.
Boss Mustapha noted that the impoverishment of the affected families as a result of the out-of-pocket costs incurred during treatment is one of the multiplier effects of treating illnesses.
He stated that the NHIA’s passage into law would significantly enhance Nigerians’ economic circumstances and eliminate poverty.
Earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari was praised by Prof. Mohammed Nasir Sambo, Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), for taking the audacious step of signing the National Health Insurance Act into law. According to him, Mr President’s extraordinary achievement would put Nigeria on a trajectory to achieving universal health care for all Nigerians by the year 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr Walter Mulombo Kazadi, the country representative for the World Health Organization (WHO), congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on signing the National Health Insurance Act (NHIA), which would make healthcare services available to the most disadvantaged members of society and, consequently, enhance the health and economic status of Nigerians.
