Germany Bypasses Nigeria, Chooses Ghana As Location For West African Centre Of Global Health

Twitter recently labelled Ghana as a ‘champion of democracy’

The German government has stated that a German-West African Centre for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention will be established in Ghana.

The German ambassador to Ghana, Christoph Retzlaff, revealed the center’s location in a tweet on Thursday.

According to Retzlaff, the Ghanaian center is one of eight around the world. He did not, however, mention the positions of the other seven.

“Excellent news: Germany will support launch of a new “German-West African Center for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention,” Retzlaff wrote.

“It will be located in Ghana and be part of 8 new centers worldwide to fight global challenges.”

The news comes as the dust has yet to settle on Twitter’s decision to locate its African headquarters in Ghana rather than Nigeria.

There is ongoing discussion about how Africa’s colossus manages to lose opportunities to neighbouring countries, especially Ghana.
The business chose Ghana because of its reputation as a ‘champion of democracy‘ and ‘a supporter of free speech, online freedom and the open internet‘ according to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
