About Keiser
Evelyn Keiser and her son Arthur. The Keiser School, a career college, was founded in Fort Lauderdale in 1977 to prepare students for careers in Florida’s expanding business and healthcare communities. The school’s name was changed to Keiser Institute of Technology in 1982 after paralegal and computer programs were added. The college changed its name to Keiser College when it started to grant associate’s degrees in 1986. The first bachelor’s degree programs were developed by Keiser in 2001. The for-profit institution underwent another name change in 2006, this time becoming Keiser University.
The Florida Attorney General started looking into Keiser University and other Florida-based for-profit colleges in 2010, but by 2012 the investigation was finished, and Keiser signed an “assurance of voluntary compliance.”
The university changed from a for-profit to a not-for-profit model in 2011 when Arthur Keiser sold the institution to Everglades College Inc., a nonprofit organization he founded and which also runs Everglades University, for an undisclosed sum.
On the site of Northwood University’s former Florida campus, Keiser University added a 100-acre flagship residential campus in West Palm Beach in 2015. This expansion was done to help students receive a residential, traditional education in West Palm Beach, Florida. Dr Michael Wiles served as the Dean of the university’s new college of chiropractic medicine, which opened its doors in 2016. In South Florida, this program is the first of its kind to have been launched.
The National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity of the US Department of Education was chaired by CEO and President Arthur Keiser in 2017. Margaret Spellings, who was the secretary of education at the time, initially appointed Keiser, and Republicans later reappointed him twice. Private and nonprofit, Kieser University is an educational institution. Its motto, “Integritas, Veritas, Sapientia,” translates to “Purity, Truth, Wisdom” in English. Its colours are navy blue and sky blue, and it has the moniker “Seahawks.”
