Gunmen Invade Barrack Road, Kills 2, kidnapping 1 Local hunters in Yola

Gunmen have killed two local hunters and kidnapped a private security operative along Yola’s barracks road in the early hours of Wednesday.
Within the local hunters architecture, Abdullahi Maikano, a veteran of the Boko Haram conflict, and his comrade, generally known as Doctor, are among the dead hunters.
Despite the presence of the 23rd armoured brigade Yola in the area, barracks road has become known for night raids by unremorseful and reckless gunmen, according to sources.
Gunmen have been making life difficult for local hunters in recent years, according to a local hunter who requested anonymity. Gunmen have been ambushing and attacking local hunters on a regular basis, resulting in the loss of lives and limbs.
“Last night attack on our personnel on the line of duty was to say the least one attack too many. All our members are in sombre mood today following the gruesome killing of two of our operatives. The trend has become disturbing in recent times.
“Barracks road neighborhood has in recent time became notorious for the activities of such deadly marauders. Our members have come under serious attacks in the area leading to grievous bodily harm.
“What even made the case pathetic is that sometimes, those behind the heinous crimes usually come out free. I could remember that sometimes back, two of the suspects of such crimes were released after detention by the police,” he stated.
Another local hunter, who also requested anonymity, expressed grief at Abdullahi Maikano’s death, saying the Boko Haram war veteran’s death was “devastating.”
“I received the death of Abdullahi Maikano with shock and disbelief. Right now my spirit is very low because if a valiant warrior who fought Boko Haram for two good years can be cut short in this brutal manner then no one is safe.
“Abdullahi Maikano is a veteran in every sense of the word and his murder today has cast a veil of gloom in the local hunters community. I hope the government will come to the aide of the family of this veteran for the supreme sacrifice he made otherwise a number of us will feel outrightly downcast,” he said.
The image maker for the Adamawa State police command, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, confirmed the occurrence and said the police command had deployed an anti-kidnapping squad to rescue the abduction security operative and apprehend the perpetrators.
