A nongovernmental organization NGO based in Jalingo the Taraba State capital Alheri Center for Women and Child Care Development has donated clothing materials to the Internally Displaced Person IDPs in NKST Church Mayo-Dassa, Jalingo Camp.
Delivery the items to the IDPs, the founder of the organization, Eglah Ibrahim said the gesture was part of the activities to mark this year’s world refugees day.
The United Nations set aside every 20th of June each year as World Refugee Day to celebrate the strength and courage of people forced to flee their homes and countries to escape conflict or persecution.
Eglah said the theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Together We Heal, Learn And Shine’ recognizes the suffering of refugees and IDPs across the globe owing to the precarious situation that is occasion by crisis and other related issues.
Eglah Ibrahim said children who found themselves in such situations are forced to stay out of school with many being abused sexually situation she said authorities should not let it happen to them.
She called on the government to adhere to sustainable Development Goal number four that Guarantees’s the right of boys and girls to complete free, equitable, and quality primary and secondary education by twenty-thirty by providing the IDPs with access to school and basic health care services.
Eglah Ibrahim encourages the IDPs to remain strong and never to lose hope as better days lay ahead.
Receiving the items on behalf of the IDPs, the pastor in charge of NKST Church Mayo-Dassa Jalingo, Othniel Mkeranan Ahmah appreciated the Alheri Center for Women and Child Care Development for the gesture saying it would go a long way to ameliorate their suffering of the IDPs.
He appeals to relevant authorities to look into the lingering crisis between herders and farmers in the state that has crippled economic activities with the view of bringing an end to the crisis.
