In a single day, India records nearly 315,000 new COVID-19 incidents

India has the world’s highest single-day COVID-19 tally, with nearly 315,000 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours. Another 2,104 people have died from the disease.

According to the country’s health ministry, 314,835 cases of infection have been reported.

In recent years, the Asian country has seen a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, as well as a shortage of oxygen for patients.

According
to reports, the country’s healthcare facilities are overburdened and
unable to keep up with the daily influx of infections.

A total of 15 million infections have been reported, with 184,657 deaths as a result of the disease.

Experts believe that the new virus variants, especially a ‘double mutant’ variant that originated in the country, are to blame for the increase in infections.

The Indian government has been chastised for its weak safety protocols,
which include conducting crowded political rallies for local elections
and allowing a religious festival to take place in front of millions of
people.

As a last resort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked state governments to enforce lock downs.

Modi said that the government is working to increase medical oxygen supplies, as well as ensure a sufficient supply of hospital beds and vaccines, and urged people to remain indoors.

â€œThe situation was manageable until a few weeks ago. The
second wave of infections has come like a storm,â€ Modi said in a
televised address.

We are trying to increase oxygen production and supply across the
country.â€
