In Kano, Petrol costs between N200 and N220.

On Wednesday, fuel (Petrol) retailers in Kano State arbitrarily increased their prices at several locations throughout the city from the legal price of N165 per litre to between N200 and N220.
Prior to the event, there had been a fuel shortage in the state that persisted for the previous two months without receiving an official explanation from the appropriate authorities.
Although the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, promised last week that the recent fuel (Petrol) shortage would soon be a thing of the past over the weekend following the meeting held with industry stakeholders, the shortage bit harder, with only a few fuel stations having the product in stock.
In a report by PUNCH, a correspondent noticed that some filling stations on Airport road, Paniso and Bompai road sectors of the city have started selling to motorists at prices ranging from N200 and N220, respectively. This was revealed during a visit to some gasoline stations on Wednesday.
However, the product was N185 a litre at the A.A. Rano filling station on Bompai Road by the Central Hotel roundabout and the Aliko fuel (Petrol) station at Paniso beside Jaba.
A. A. Rano’s fuel (Petrol) attendant, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed the price increase from Tuesday to our correspondent during a conversation.
Additionally, the product was sold for N220 per litre at the Amkar gas station on Airport Road, even though the attendant there admitted that the price of fuel (Petrol) had changed to N220 just last week after having been sold for N215 for more than three weeks.
Ibrahim Baba, a driver who was questioned at the Amkar gas station on Airport Road, lamented the price increase and pointed out that the government had asked that it be set at N165 per litre.
It’s so sad that I can only afford 15 litres of fuel (Petrol) at this price of N220 and surprisingly, the NNPC is advising motorists against engaging in panic-buying, noting that the price remains N165 per litre.
Aisha Yahaya, a different driver, said that in the previous week, she purchased fuel at the Aliko gas station on the Jaba/Paniso route for N185 per litre.
She complained,
It’s like we don’t have a government in place again as the petrol stations dispense fuel at the prices that suit them without any sanction.
The scenario is different for significant petroleum marketers in the state, where the product is still sold at N165 per litre at the Oando Filling Station on the Murtala Muhammad Way roundabout. On the same route, Ardova Plc (previously Forte Oil plc) continues to dispense for N165 per litre.
