Eight women and three men were detained by the Kano State Hisbah Board for eating during Ramadan.
They were apprehended by Hisbah staff in raids in Tudun Murtala, Nassarawa Local Government, and Sharada, Kamo Municipal, where they were discovered consuming food in broad daylight.
The board made the arrest, according to Acting Commandant General Musa Kibiya, after receiving details from residents of the two areas at separate times.
“The residents of the area feed us with information and when we went to Tudun Murtala we found five women and three men eating in a broad daylight.
“At Sharada we were able to arrest three women.â€
He went on to say that what those people did was against Islam’s teachings.
The arrested individuals, on the other hand, denied committing the crimes charged against them, claiming that they had their reasons for doing so.
The girls said that they did not fast because they were on their time, which makes fasting impossible.
Dr. Kibiya stated that the board would conduct an inquiry into the matter in order to identify those who have a legitimate excuse for not fasting.
He went on to say that the board will continue its raids in other parts of the state to catch those who refuse to fast.
