Kuje Prison Escapee Re-arrested

Yakubu Abdulmumuni, one of the detainees who escaped from the Medium Security Correctional Centre, Kuje in Abuja, has been Re-arrested, according to the Nigerian Police in Ogun State.
DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, a spokeswoman for the Command, informed the media of this in a statement.
The Escapee Re-arrested was detained on Monday in Ogun State’s Sango-Ota region, according to the DSP.
While giving an account to reporters, DSP Oyeyemi stated that the Escapee Re-arrested was apprehended after receiving word that he had been seen at Sango-Ota.
According to him, SP Saleh Dahiru, the Divisional Police Officer for the Sango-Ota Division, immediately mobilized his personnel and moved to the location where the inmate was captured.
“The convict confessed to the Police that he escaped from Kuje Correctional centre on July 5, when the centre was attacked by bandits.
“Abdulmumuni stated further that he was convicted by Kogi state High Court for offence of conspiracy and culpable homicide and sent to Kuje Correctional Centre.”
Following the Escapee re-arrest, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lanre Bankole ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to transfer the convict to the Correctional Center with immediate effect.

On July 5, gunmen assaulted the Kuje Prison in Abuja, burning down vehicles and structures while also releasing hundreds of prisoners.
The Federal Government responded to the attack by revealing that a total of 879 prisoners fled the facility during the terrible episode.
The capture of one of the evading prisoners was also revealed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA.
The prisoner was stopped at Abuja’s Area 1 motor park as he tried to board a bus bound for Maiduguri, Borno State.
He was found in possession of three wraps of cannabis sativa, and during the initial interview, he told the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) that he was being held at the Kuje Correctional Center on terrorist and robbery accusations.
