MAUTH Yola Gets New CT Scanner Machine

The Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, MAUTH, Yola, Adamawa State, will begin as an upgrade of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Yola, with high-tech medical facilities such as the GE Revolution Evo 128 Slice CT Scanner as an intervention of the Petroleum Equalization Fund, PEF, and
The Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative, PCNI,
Mr. Ja’afar Othman, acting on behalf of the contractors, Yayok Consult International Ltd. and Megspaff Ltd., said the contract for the supply and installation of the GE Revolution Evo 128 Slice Computerized Tomography, CT, scan, which combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around one’s body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues inside one’s body, has been completed with the manpower training to be able to effectively operate the machine.
Receiving the facility on behalf of the management of the health institution, Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar, the Chief Medical Director, represented by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr Ahmadu Baba Usman, thanked the federal government for the PEF/PCNI intervention, commended the contractors and project consultants for the successful delivery, and assured that the facility would be utilised judiciously.
Speaking to journalists on behalf of the project consultants, Dr Marafa Iya certified that the facility supplied and installed has met the specification standard.

Marfa confirmed that the machine, having been installed, has been tested, and that the staff in the radiology department have had adequate training for efficient administration of the CT scan.
In an interview with reporters after the handover, the Head of Clinical Services said,
“This is one of the most beautiful moments for this hospital.” This is a state-of-the-art computerized tomography (CT) scan with a lot of built-in technology that will help our clients. “
“I believe this will benefit the patients because it will heighten the precision in the way we make diagnoses.”
“It also means that the intervention that will be given following the diagnosis will be more accurate.“
The head of the Radiology Department, Dr. Yunusa Dahiru, said that it’s great to have cutting-edge diagnostic technology.
“We’re actually delighted. In Radiology, CT is central for diagnosis, and all the other clinics depend on Radiology for diagnosis.
“I’m telling you that this is a high-grade CT 128 slice that can actually capture the heart at a standstill without you moving because it’s fast and the images are superb.”
“You expect more good diagnoses coming from the radiology department,” MAUTH Yola said. “It’s one of its kind in the whole country“.
I think very few hospitals, some of them private, have 128 slices that can actually image the heart, the colon, the spine and other parts of the body. We’re happy that this programme has come to light.
“In terms of capacity, when asked how many patients would the CT scan run in a day? Dr. Yunusa revealed that the machine can take 250 patients per day.
“When we asked the engineer that came for training, he said we could take 250 patients per day.
“The machine is ready for it.” I don’t think we have the right number of those patients, but if we do, the machine is big enough to take all the patients,” Yonusa said.

When asked about the adequacy of electricity that could effectively cater for the machine, Dr Yunusa assured us that the power supply would not be a hindrance.
He said,
“The management of the hospital, particularly the Medical Director, Prof. Auwal Muhammad Abubakar, is interested in giving the best services. We’ve let him know that power is very important. That is why when the facility came, it came with a brand new transformer just for the complex.
We’re also thinking of upgrading it by adding an Automatic Voltage Regulator, or AVR, so that the power will not only be available but be standard and stable for the machine.
We also have a standard standby generator that will give us an alternate source of power. I think the hospital is ready. “
Mr. Ja’afar Othman added that the machine actually came with a 120KVA UPS that is installed in the other room and could serve for 20 to 30 minutes when the main grill is off before switching to an alternate power supply.
After setting up the machine and the test run, having had the staff from the radiology department trained, the CT scanning service has started in MAUTH Yola.
