Military Court-Martial 227 Soldiers in North-east

A General and Special Court-Martial was established by the military to hear cases of misbehaviour against 227 soldiers who were fighting the insurgency in Nigeria’s North East.
Major General Christopher Musa, the Theater Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, made this announcement at the beginning of a Special Court-Martial to try 29 troops at the Theatre’s headquarters in Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, Borno State.
He claimed that 30 more soldiers would be imprisoned and that 4 Soldiers have been referred for dismissal.
Additionally, the General and Special Court-Martial suggested that 25 individuals have their ranks reduced, 20 have their pay reduced, and 17 have their conduct severely reprimanded.
Major General Musa further said that 107 cases had been referred for summary trial, 14 cases had been dismissed, and 10 soldiers had been discharged and found not guilty.
“What we did was refer them to Army Headquarters, and they received the recommendation”
The Chief of Army Staff has the ability to confirm soldiers, while the Army Council has the authority to approve officers prior to implementation, the General said.
He added that ensuring justice is the first goal, which is why it has taken the army some time to bring the issue to light so that no one feels they have been shortchanged in any way.
