My parents’ journey to Adamawa State – Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President, described how he was born in Adamawa State to migrant parents who had relocated to the state.
Fulani nomads, according to Mr. Abubakar, can be found all over Africa.
He said this while campaigning in Jigawa State for delegates from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the party’s impending presidential primary.

Some members of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) claimed he was not born in the country and so ineligible to run for office.
They made the claim in the election petition tribunal, where Atiku Abubakar was contesting President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the 2019 presidential election.
Mr. Abubakar told reporters at Sule Lamido’s residence in Dutse after meeting delegates at the party’s secretariat,
“Coming to Jigawa is homecoming because one person called Malam Adamu Dutse left here (Dutse, Jigawa State Capital) with his wife named ‘Yar Malam and migrated to Adamawa State where I was born.”
Mr. Abubakar stated that his parents’ family are still the custodians of the mosque, that he is the chief Imam of ‘Jigawar Sarki,’ and that the residence is called ‘Gidan Malamai.’
To summarize, “this is half of my history,” Mr. Abubakar added.
“For this, I see myself in Jigawa as I am at home.”
Atiku stated that he came to Jigawa not just to canvass delegates’ votes, but also to meet his people and strengthen their bonds.
He said that he and former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido struggled politically to ensure the country’s democratic government.
Mr. Abubakar stated,
“We are still here struggling for the consolidation of democracy that we fought the military and ensure its existence in Nigeria to ensure prosperity, peace, and development.”
Atiku Abubakar told party delegates that Nigeria is a blessed country but that it lacks purposeful leadership.
“we prayed for good leaders, may the peace of God be upon us,” he remarked.
“I am grateful to the delegates for their support in the 2018 primary election, once again, we are here again for the election in 2022, with God’s grace, with your support, I hope to get your support once again,” he said.
