Over 100 people were murdered in an explosion in an Illegal Oil Refinery in Nigeria over the weekend.
Many of the victims were “burned beyond recognition,” according to state commissioner Goodluck Opiah.
Authorities are currently on the lookout for the facility’s owner.
Due to the high rate of unemployment in the region, illegal refineries have sprung up, where crude oil is tapped from major oil company pipelines and processed in homemade tanks.
According to statistics, Nigeria loses an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil every day, or more than 10% of its total production.
