Strength of Nigerian Army bolstered by 5,800 new recruits – COAS

Lt.-Gen Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has stated that the 5,800 newly recruited soldiers [ Nigerian army ] will be assigned to various theater operations to combat ongoing insecurity in some parts of the country.
On Saturday in Zaria, Kaduna State, the COAS disclosed this during the Passing-out-Parade (PoP) of the 82 Regular Recruit Intake.
Yahaya, who served as the PoP’s Special Guest of Honour and Reviewing Officer, said the exercise geared at strengthening the Nigerian army would result in more food on the table.
He said the new soldiers would be assigned to more relevant locations where they are needed, warning that it is a clear message to all criminals, whether they are bandits, kidnappers or terrorists.
As a result, he asked the new soldiers to maintain a high level of professionalism and serve as good representatives for the Depot Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
“As for the passing out recruits, you are all aware, Nigeria is currently facing numerous security challenges such as the activities of Boko Haram Terrorists, armed bandits, kidnappers, secessionist agitators and other criminal elements.
“I wish to state that these security challenges can only be surmounted by the collective resolve and effort of every officer and soldier of the Nigerian Army, including those of you passing out today,” he added.
As a result, Yahaya urged the new troops to put their mental, physical, and moral training to good use, as well as the training “you will be subjected to in your different units, formations, and corps.”
He went on to say that the army expects them to respect the Nigerian Army Core Values of Loyalty, Selfless Service, Courage, Discipline, Integrity, and Respect for Others, which are held in high regard by all personnel.
“These values along with other cherished ethos of the Nigerian Army, if well imbibed and upheld, will help you attain great heights in your chosen career,” Yahaya stated.
The army leader further emphasized the importance of the Oath of Attestation that the men had taken.
“By this oath you are under obligation to remain loyal to constituted authorities at all times and place the interest of the nation ahead of your personal convictions,” he stated.
He stated that from its inception in 1924, the Nigerian Army Depot has been in charge of molding selected able-bodied persons into well-trained and disciplined troops in order to meet the Nigerian Army’s manpower requirements.
He went on to say that the function of molding selected able-bodied citizens into well-trained and disciplined warriors was critical and still relevant, given the myriad security problems that our great nation is currently facing.
According to Yahaya, the Nigerian Army Depot has continued to organize and implement training exercises in accordance with Army Headquarters Training Directives.
The training, he added, was also in line with his goal of a “professional Nigerian Army equipped to execute assigned objectives within a joint environment in Nigeria’s defense.”
The COAS also inaugurated and inspected many projects at the Depot NA and Army School of Military Police, Basawa, Zaria, according to the Nigerian News Agency.
