According to reports, a trailer drove into a stalled car in Kwara state, killing eight people and an undetermined number of cows.
According to reports, the driver of the white commercial trailer with the license plate DAT SGM396ZR was travelling from the north of the country when he collided with the stopped trailer.
It was learned that the event happened on Wednesday just after 6:00 am in Okoolowo Junction, Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State.

He claimed that a male victim who was seated in the front with the driver and was thought to be the animals’ owner passed away instantly.
“The other victims include people inside the stationary trailer and other traders and marketers around the place during the incident. It was a gory sight to behold”, he said.
Another eyewitness reported that 12 people had died, including two Yorubas and 10 Hausas who are among the locals who sell rams.
He claimed that the General Hospital in Ilorin’s morgue had received the bodies of the deceased.
Frederick Ogidan, the Kwara state Federal Road Safety Commander, confirmed the event when called.
He said “17 people were involved in the accident, but 8 died while 4 were injured”
According to Statista, in Nigeria, there were recorded around 11,800 traffic or road-related accident deaths in the third quarter of 2021. About 10.2 thousand of those were injuries, and 1.7 thousand deaths were reported. Approximately 8.8 thousand injuries and 1.4 thousand fatalities brought on by traffic accidents were recorded in the previous quarter throughout the nation. The majority of traffic accidents that happen in Nigeria are deemed serious, according to the source.
Data from the Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Bureau of Statistics, show that road accidents in Nigeria claimed the lives of at least 41,709 people between 2013 and 2020.
The main cause of deaths in Nigeria is cited as being traffic accidents, particularly for people between the ages of 5 and 29.
Road accidents are regrettable, but they are becoming a common and recurrent occurrence in the nation. In reality, scarcely a day goes by without news of a traffic accident that claimed lives or left victims permanently disabled.
