US Presidential Race, Can ‘Game-Changing Endorsement’ Dent Trump’s Campaign?
MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE – DECEMBER 12: Republican Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley and New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu chat to members of the press following Sununu’s endorsement of Haley at a Town Hall event at McIntyre Ski Area on December 12, 2023, in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Indian ancestry Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign has received a huge boost with the endorsement of New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu.
Sununu made the news during a town hall meeting with Haley on Tuesday evening in Manchester, New Hampshire. In a tweet, he referred to her as “the candidate with the momentum to win and get our party back on track to delivering conservative victories across the country.”
Highly sought-after endorsement to give Haley an advantage over others
The highly prized endorsement is likely to aid Haley, who is attempting to chip away at Trump’s almost 30-point lead in the state’s Jan. 23 primary.
The support is significant because New Hampshire hosts the first primary and the second overall election on the Republican presidential nomination calendar.
“I’m so grateful that the governor of Live Free or Die is on our side—it doesn’t get any more solid than this!” Thank you for your friendship and support, @ChrisSununu. We have 42 days till the primary—let’s make history!” exclaimed Haley on X.
Following a string of good debate performances, Haley has surged in the polls and gained support from contributors, including many important Wall Street CEOs. According to experts, the endorsement could impact some Republican voters, independents, and moderates who often play a significant role in New Hampshire’s key presidential primary.
‘It’s a game-changing endorsement,’ says one.
“It is always questionable whether endorsements matter, but in this case, this is a game-changing endorsement,” said Neil Levesque, executive director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College, to Fox News.
Numerous high-profile sponsors have come out in support of Nikki Haley’s bid. Chris Sununu has joined the roster of prominent supporters of Nikki Haley’s presidential run.
Other notable names include billionaire investor Bill Ackman, Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase & Co., the Koch network, and LinkedIn Corp. co-founder Reid Hoffman, who each donated $250,000.
72 Iowans have also come out in support of her. previous political operatives such as David Oman, who served as chief of staff to previous governors Robert Ray and Terry Branstad, are among those on the list.
Doug Gross, a lawyer and former Branstad chief of staff, and Christine Hensley, the longest-serving member of the Des Moines City Council, have also endorsed him.
Nevertheless, polls do not paint a rosy picture for Haley, who is currently 27 percentage points behind the former president in New Hampshire.
Sununu believes his endorsement will have an impact on the Granite State, although he previously told Fox News, “I’m never a big believer that endorsements matter as much as the press thinks they do.”
“It’s not just about my endorsement,” he said on Tuesday after endorsing Haley, “but I think some of the news and media that the endorsement kicks off gets people excited to look in this direction.”
