YHC: British Council’s MCN, HIF Seek Out Social Innovators in Adamawa

The British Council and the Northeast Humanitarian Innovation Hub is awarding 16 Adamawa youths a total of 500, 000 Naira each to pitch their innovative ideas in tackling insecurity through the Youth Hack Challenge (YHC).
From inspiration to implementation, the Humanitarian Innovation Hub is a social innovation center that emphasizes the power of collaboration and community inclusion.

Their distinguishing feature as a social impact-driven innovation environment is their capacity to solve societal concerns with a “out-of-the-box” approach inspired by human-centered design thinking.
On Saturday, March 14th, over 100 people gathered at the Northeast Humanitarian Innovation Hub’s pitching center to present their ideas about security and the socioeconomic impact on the Adamawa community.
Today, we innovate!
It's pitch day at the hub and we are all for the wonderful ideas being reviewed today.

Participants from the state’s 21 local government regions gathered, hoping to be listed and have their created development model accepted.

The “Idea pitch for the youth Hack challenge,” according to Mary Igbazua, the Project Lead at Humanitarian Innovation Foundation, is a program supported by the British Council and the MCN as part of the managing conflict in Nigeria fund, which is searching for new ways to address security concerns in Adamawa State.
How to reconstruct the community after COVID-19, including economic recovery, job creation, youth employment, and promoting economic growth, as well as how security is an integral element of it, is what the organisation is expecting, says Mary.

Igbazua says that by the end of the project,
“we should have funded 16 great ideas that address security problems in the state. This would make the state a safer and more business-friendly place for investments to grow.”
Giving young people the skills, work opportunities, and experience they need to be self-sufficient, connect with the market, and start and grow successful businesses.
“Innovative answers to the state’s economic difficulties are what we’re searching for in this presentation. What innovations does a participant have to incorporate adolescents and women into policy and security decision-making?”
“What creative or tech-based applications do you have that can tackle security problems, connect people to jobs and skills-based talents, and then ensure that we grow as a community together?”
“We want to create an ecosystem of young people who are passionate about community development, entrepreneurship, security, and advocating peace,” she added.
