Youths Constitute 71% of Those Who Registered for PVC

Of the 11.011 million potential voters who might obtain a PVC that INEC registered in preparation for the forthcoming General elections, youths made up 71.1% of the total.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Thursday, INEC’s spokesman in Cross River, Mrs Tonia Nwobi, said the number represented those who registered between June 28, 2021, and July 25, 2022.

295,018 of the total registered in Cross River, according to her.

She said that the overall figure for PVC registration included 3,391,940 online registrations in addition to 7,619,179 physical registrations.

“Those between the ages of 35 years and 49 years numbered 2,192,897; those between the ages of 50 years and 69 years numbered 871,690.

Nwobi listed the top five states by the number of registrants as Lagos, with 508,936; Kano, with 500,207; Delta, with 481,929; Rivers, with 436,459; and Kaduna, with 417,427.[/quotation]

Ekiti (124,844), Yobe (134,002), Imo (164,835), FCT (170,828), and Ondo are the states with the fewest registrations (202,419).

According to Nwobi, there were 5,558,048 female PVC registrants or 50.5% more than there were male PVC registrants (5,453,071). (representing 49.5 per cent).

She broke down the distribution further by occupation, noting that students had the greatest registration (4,003,348), accounting for 36.4% of the total.

Business, farming, and housewives come in second and third place, respectively, with 2,012,312; 1,390,813; and 1,299,409, or 18.3%; 12.6%; and 11.8 % of the total population who registered for a PVC.

Others are civil servants, 342,685; artisans, 592,339; trading, 612,048; public servants, 113,331 and others, 644,834,  according to her.

The PVC registration exercise will end on July 31 according to a deadline set by INEC.
