Tinubu Approves Zaccheus Adedeji as FIRS Chairman, Nami Set for Retirement
In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu has given his nod to the appointment of Zaccheus Adedeji as the new Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
This development comes as the former chairman, Muhammed Nami, prepares for his impending terminal leave.
According to a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Hon. Zaccheus Adedeji assumes this role on an acting basis for a period of 90 days.
Following this, he is slated for confirmation as the substantive Executive Chairman of FIRS, a position he will hold for an initial term of four years.
President Tinubu has directed Mr. Muhammad Nami, the outgoing FIRS Chairman who has been in office since December 2019, to commence a three-month pre-retirement leave in adherence to Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243.
This leave will culminate in his retirement from service on December 8, 2023.
Adedeji, who previously served as the Special Adviser to the President on Internal Revenue, now steps into the role of acting chairman at FIRS.
He boasts an impressive academic background, graduating with first-class honors in accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University.
Zaccheus Adedeji’s expertise in corporate taxation and proficiency in public finance are noteworthy, backed by over 15 years of professional experience.
Furthermore, Adedeji’s contributions extend to the realm of public service administration and advisory services for both corporate multinationals and various levels of government in Nigeria.
His tenure as Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State saw the establishment of a Medium-Term Financial (MTF) strategy, an initiative executed by a team of fewer than 50 personnel, which laid the foundation for comprehensive financial and budgetary management in the state.
This strategic approach is a testament to Adedeji’s forward-thinking and impactful contributions to fiscal governance.
This development marks a pivotal moment for FIRS, as Adedeji’s extensive expertise promises to steer the organization towards continued success and effective revenue management.
Zaccheus Adedeji’s tenure holds great promise for the agency and Nigeria’s financial landscape as a whole.
